About Duke Language School

5 Questions
Duke Language School specialises in three languages: Thai, English, and Mandarin Chinese. Each language is taught by certified native-speaker teachers at all proficiency levels — from absolute beginner through to advanced and professional. We are the go-to school in Bangkok for expats and travellers wanting to integrate, work, or simply connect with local culture.
We are conveniently located near Nana BTS Station on Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok — one of the city’s most accessible and international neighbourhoods. Getting to us is easy by sky train, taxi, or motorbike taxi. Full address and directions are on our contact page.
Duke Language School has been educating international students in Bangkok since 2010. Over the years we have helped thousands of expats, digital nomads, businesspeople, and travellers develop real language skills — building a reputation as one of Bangkok’s most trusted language institutions.
Several things set us apart: small classes of maximum 8 students ensure everyone gets personal attention; all teachers are certified native speakers; we provide full ED Visa support at no charge; our curriculum focuses on real-world communication rather than rote memorisation; and our central Bangkok location means you practise the language the moment you step outside.
Yes. Duke Language School is officially registered and recognised by Thailand’s Ministry of Education (MOE). This recognition is what allows us to sponsor ED (Education) Visa applications for enrolled students. You receive an official enrolment letter upon registering, which is accepted by Thai immigration authorities.

Courses & Schedules

6 Questions
We offer four formats: Daytime Group Classes (Mon–Fri, four daily slots), Evening Group Classes (Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu at 6:30pm), Private 1-on-1 Lessons (flexible Mon–Fri scheduling), and Online Live Classes via Zoom (same timetable as daytime, available worldwide). All formats follow the same structured curriculum.
Group classes are capped at 8 students maximum — small enough that every student speaks, asks questions, and receives feedback in every session. A minimum of 7 enrolled students is required to open a new batch. If a batch does not reach the minimum, enrolled students are transferred to the next available batch or offered a full refund.
We offer a full progression from absolute beginner to advanced professional. Our Thai programme runs through the Journey series (foundations and core communication), Explore (intermediate reading, writing, and conversation), and Connect (advanced fluency and business Thai). English and Mandarin courses follow a similar structured progression.
Each course level spans 40 hours of instruction across 20 classes (2 hours each). At the daytime pace (Mon–Fri, one class per day), a single course takes approximately 4 weeks. Evening courses (twice per week) run approximately 10 weeks per level.
Absolutely — we offer a free 1-hour trial class with no payment and no commitment required. You’ll meet your teacher, experience the classroom environment, and get a feel for the pace and teaching style. Book your free trial via the button on our homepage or by calling us directly.
New batches begin every Monday throughout the year. There are no fixed semester intakes, so you can enrol and start within days. Contact us to confirm the next available slot for your preferred language, level, and time.

Fees & Payments

5 Questions
Group courses (daytime and evening) are priced at ฿8,000 per course level (40 hours). Private 1-on-1 lessons cost ฿700 per hour (2-hour sessions, minimum 5 sessions). Online group courses via Zoom are also ฿8,000 per course level. See the full breakdown on our Course Fees page.
Yes — we offer significant bundle discounts: a 5-course bundle is ฿36,000 (saving ฿4,000 vs single-course pricing) and a 7-course bundle is ฿49,000 (saving ฿7,000). Bundle credits are valid across any level of the same programme and any available time slot.
We accept cash (Thai Baht), bank transfer to our Thai bank account, and major credit and debit cards at the school office. Payment is made in full before the course begins. For bank transfers, please send your receipt to our LINE or email to confirm your place.
The course textbook is a one-time purchase of ฿500, sold separately at the school office. It covers all levels (Journey, Explore, and Connect) so you only buy it once. Audio files for the textbook are available as a free download to all enrolled students.
Course fees are non-refundable once a batch has started. If you cannot continue, fees may be transferred to a future batch subject to availability and a written request before the batch end date. For private lessons, 1 cancellation is permitted per 5 sessions booked, with at least 24 hours’ advance notice. Late cancellations count as attended sessions.

ED Visa Support

6 Questions
An ED Visa is a Thai non-immigrant visa issued to foreign nationals studying at an officially recognised educational institution in Thailand. It allows you to stay legally in the country for the duration of your studies, with 90-day extensions available at local immigration. Duke Language School is registered with Thailand’s Ministry of Education and is authorised to sponsor ED Visa applications for enrolled students.
Daytime group classes and private 1-on-1 lessons are both eligible for ED Visa support. Online courses (Zoom) are not eligible, as they do not require physical presence in Thailand. You must be enrolled in at least one in-school course to qualify for visa sponsorship.
Once enrolled and all required documents are submitted, Ministry of Education approval typically takes 2–4 weeks. You will then take the MOE approval letter to a Thai embassy or consulate (in your home country or a neighbouring country) to receive the visa stamp. We recommend applying well before your current visa expires.
Duke Language School provides full ED Visa assistance at no extra charge — it is a free service for all eligible enrolled students. The only costs you incur are the official Thai government visa fee (paid at the embassy) and any travel costs if you need to leave Thailand to obtain the visa stamp. We never charge a handling or facilitation fee.
Contact our school office at least 4–6 weeks before your ED Visa expires. We will issue an updated enrolment letter confirming your continued studies, which you can use to extend your visa at the local immigration office (for 90-day extensions) or to obtain a new visa at a Thai embassy abroad. Students who remain continuously enrolled can typically renew without leaving Thailand.
You will need: a valid passport (at least 6 months validity), a completed application form (via our online form), proof of enrolment issued by Duke, a passport-size photo, and your current visa details. Additional documents may be required by the Thai embassy in your home country — our team will guide you through the full checklist.

Online Learning

4 Questions
Online classes are live, instructor-led sessions delivered via Zoom — not pre-recorded videos. They follow the exact same curriculum as in-school group courses and run Monday to Friday with the same four daily session slots. Class sizes are kept small (max 8 students), and you interact directly with your teacher and classmates in real time.
You need a laptop or desktop computer with a working webcam and microphone, a stable internet connection, and the free Zoom application (downloadable at zoom.us). A quiet environment for speaking practice is strongly recommended. The course textbook (฿500, sold at the school office) and audio files (free via email) are the only additional purchases required.
No — online courses are not eligible for ED Visa sponsorship as they do not require physical attendance in Thailand. If you are planning to live in Thailand and need visa support, please enrol in our in-school daytime group classes or private lessons instead.
Yes — if you move to Bangkok or decide to attend in person, you can transfer to an in-school class at the same level with no additional charge. Contact our office to arrange the transfer and confirm seat availability in your preferred time slot.

Getting Started

5 Questions
Enrolment is straightforward: call or LINE us to confirm course availability and your preferred time slot, then visit the school to complete a short registration form and pay your course fee. If you are joining from abroad, submit your details via our online booking form. New batches start every Monday, so enrolment can happen quickly.
Not at all — the majority of our new students start from zero. Our beginner courses assume no prior knowledge and are designed to give you a solid foundation in speaking, listening, reading, and writing from day one. We also welcome students at intermediate and advanced levels who want to accelerate their progress.
On your first day (or during your free trial), your teacher will conduct a brief spoken assessment to gauge your current level. It is an informal conversation, not a formal test — there is nothing to prepare. Based on the outcome, we will place you in the most appropriate class. If the level feels off after a session or two, we will adjust immediately.
Just yourself and a willingness to speak! A notebook and pens are helpful for your first session. Once enrolled, purchase the course textbook (฿500 at the school office) before your second class. For online students, log in to Zoom 5 minutes early to test your audio and camera.
Most students reach basic conversational ability within 3–4 months of consistent study (4+ hours per week). Practical day-to-day fluency typically follows within 6–9 months. Progress depends on your study time outside the classroom and how much you practise — Bangkok offers unlimited opportunities to use the language the moment you leave class.
